Should a pub, club or private venue have the right to scan your fingerprints? The Australian Privacy Foundation wrote a policy paper a few years ago identifying the problems with (1) private organisations collecting personal information that was not required as a fulfilment of its function; (2) secondary persons scanning licenses (in contra of NSW Transport (General) Act; and (3) potential breaches in the Liquor Act if a patron offered their ID to be stored not just cited.
